Contemporary, considered and strategically delivered

Commercial Design Expertise

For nearly three decades, we have continually invested in expanding our expertise in commercial interior design and workplace strategy. Our deep understanding of how people use space allows us to create functional, efficient and future-ready commercial environments.

We work with organisations to reimagine complex workplaces, delivering streamlined commercial environments aligned with culture, operations, and long-term business objectives.

01. Workplace Strategy and Collaborative Design

At MKDC, we excel at workplace strategy and commercial interior design, helping organisations navigate complex working requirements, hierarchies, team synergies, and operational tensions.

Through our interactive visioning workshops and staff engagement processes, we build trust and rapport within client teams. Every perspective is heard and acknowledged, and insights are clearly communicated back to the client, supporting informed decision-making and alignment with organisational goals.

Our approach enables clients to uncover their organisational identity and explore how it can be expressed spatially. This leads to workplace environments that reflect company culture and values, while enhancing efficiency and functionality.

The process often reveals opportunities to optimise operations, such as reducing workpoints through agile staff modelling or enhancing workplace dynamics with collaborative zones, shared spaces, and integrated technologies. The result is a future-ready, functional, and engaging workplace tailored to the needs of both people and business.

02. Cultural Partnerships and Community Engagement in Design

Exploring and developing cultural partnerships during the co-design process ensures a more accurate reflection of your community, values, and desired narrative.

Engaging with storytellers, Indigenous community leaders, and organisational representatives helps us build rich, multidimensional stakeholder relationships. This collaboration adds depth of empathy and spirit as we evolve the design narrative, resulting in interiors that authentically reflect the organisation’s people, culture, history, and vision.

Balancing diversity and inclusiveness is now central to most design briefs. Our well-established community engagement process allows us to address nuanced and often sensitive needs, ensuring that every design outcome is inclusive, respectful, and reflective of the wider community.

03. Tenancy Selection and Strategic Workplace Planning

For many of our clients, selecting a new tenancy or building can be a complex and challenging process. At MKDC, we provide step-by-step guidance to support workplace strategy, commercial fitout planning, and decision-making for all stakeholders. Our approach includes test fit planning and environmental quality assessments to ensure every option is thoroughly evaluated.

We also provide preliminary budgets, fit-out estimates, and relocation cost analysis to support commercial negotiations. Through site visits and walkthroughs, we identify opportunities, design potential, and points of difference that can be incorporated from the outset.

By combining strategic location assessment with change-management considerations, we help clients identify both the opportunities and limitations of potential sites. This is where the co-design process begins – clients quickly see the value and vision that emerge, transforming the selection process into an inspiring journey toward a functional, future-ready workplace.

04. Sustainable and Human-Centered Interior Design

At MKDC, we approach interior design with a triple-bottom-line focus, taking responsibility for the social, environmental, and economic impacts of every project. Our designs prioritise longevity, adaptability, and sustainable practices as core principles.

We integrate WELL Building Standards, 5 Star Green Star, and NABERS certifications into our design approach, identifying opportunities for innovation through intelligent material selection and sustainable implementation. This ensures that our projects not only meet industry benchmarks but also deliver measurable environmental benefits.

With the human experience at the forefront, we consider affordability, comfort, and ergonomics. By balancing sustainability with the practical needs of users, our holistic design solutions create interiors that are functional, adaptable, and environmentally responsible – while enhancing wellbeing and long-term value.

05. Environmental Design and CPTED Principles in Public Spaces

MKDC authored a research white paper for the Department of Finance, contributing to a body of knowledge on environmental management of behaviour in workplaces.

We apply CPTED (Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design) principles across projects to create positive perceptions and a strong sense of place, particularly where interactions occur between multiple members of the public. This approach helps reduce stress and anxiety, enhancing safety and comfort in public spaces.

MKDC has extensive experience implementing these principles in high-risk community centres and public government offices, ensuring environments are safe, functional, and welcoming. By combining evidence-based research with thoughtful design, we deliver public spaces that balance security, accessibility, and user experience.

The joy of working with MKDC is our interior design journey - delivering thoughtful, functional and future-ready spaces
