MKDC designed a transformative Support Services Hub, converting a former warehouse into a highly functional and welcoming facility comprising office space, consultation rooms, and a community centre. The result is a unique mixed-services environment that brings together a variety of support networks to assist vulnerable members of the community in one integrated location.
The diversity of the client base required a deeply inclusive and consultative briefing process. MKDC worked closely with stakeholders to ensure the design responded to a broad range of needs cultural, emotional, and practical. The outcome is a space that feels safe, respectful, and accessible to all who use it.
Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) principles were embedded in the planning from the outset. These strategies informed the spatial layout, material choices, and sightlines to enhance both actual and perceived safety throughout the facility. At the same time, MKDC ensured the hub avoided an institutional or clinical feel. Highly considered security elements—such as discreet access controls, surveillance, and separation of public and private zones—were integrated seamlessly to maintain a calm, residential character while safeguarding clients and staff.
The fitout was delivered within a tight 14-week construction program and included all-new services, energy efficiency upgrades, and significant structural works—essentially creating a new building envelope within the existing warehouse shell. Despite the complexity of the scope and the fast-tracked timeline, MKDC maintained design integrity and executional excellence from start to finish.
