Parkerville – George Jones Child, Youth and Family Centre

MKDC worked closely with Parkerville Children and Youth Care and the WA Police to deliver a bespoke office fitout for the new Child Advocacy Centre in Armadale. From the first design workshop, the team focused on creating a child-centred, therapeutic environment. This space actively supports children, families, and staff. The Parkerville Children and Youth Care office fitout demonstrates how interior design can enhance wellbeing, safety and engagement in sensitive community settings.

The reception area welcomes clients with gentle curves in the modular sofa and reception desk. These elements evoke a sense of gathering around a campfire, creating warmth and comfort. At the same time, all finishes are commercially durable, ensuring the space remains functional under heavy use.

The neutral base colour palette prevents sensory overload. It allows vibrant murals and graphics to act as visual focal points. Darren Hutchens, working with MKDC and Parkerville, designed the murals to empower clients and encourage interaction. In addition, strategically placed glazing and line-of-sight design improve safety for both staff and clients. Timber accents provide strength, stability, and a sense of homeliness throughout the space.

By combining these visual, spatial, and material cues, MKDC created a therapeutic, functional, and flexible workplace. Staff can actively support children and families in a safe, engaging environment. Learn more about our other projects here.
