MKDC were appointed to design and refurbish this original landmark Residential Aged Care Facility in Wembley.
We worked closely with their team to develop a staged refurbishment strategy that encompassed the changing needs of residents, family, visitors and staff, as well as identify opportunities to create more communal areas, bedrooms and ensuites within the existing facility.
Improving the visitor experience was the key focus, as well as creating a variety of destinations within the facility that are welcoming, nurturing and elevate the residents’ health and wellbeing.
Themes of placemaking and memory were referenced in the design, becoming the basis of the finishes and materials selected. Dementia design principles were thoroughly researched and incorporated throughout, forming the basis for their design guidelines that will be used to streamline future project rollouts at other MercyCare sites.
