St Bart’s

MKDC undertook an initial feasibility study to support St Barts’s application for Lotterywest funding for the major refurbishment project. This was successful, and MKDC was then appointed as the Lead Consultant for St Bart’s major refurbishment in East Perth.

The project vision was to improve the operational, living, and workplace environments at the Lime Street facility. The project was complex as St Barts remained fully operational throughout the refurbishment, providing ongoing services for vulnerable people experiencing homelessness and supporting its Aged Care and Community Housing, all of which exist within the same complex as its corporate office.

The project involved significant improvements to the front of the house, including the creation of a warm and welcoming reception area that incorporates the Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) principles. We added culturally safe spaces for consumers to meet with staff and outreach service providers. The consumer courtyards were enhanced with a yarning circle, new paving, upgraded lighting and security, and refurbishing the community kitchens and general improvements on each floor. For St Barts staff, we provided a refurbished workplace that enabled growth and a more collaborative and interactive environment for staff.

This successful project has had a significant impact on the Lime Street building for staff and consumers.
