Located south of Perth, The Cove underwent a light touch refurbishment in December 2019.
The main aim was to revitalise a sense of place and unify the aesthetic with the rest of the Brightwater sites. Using the design guidelines MKDC delivered dementia best practice environments across the site.
Being one of Brightwater’s largest sites, it required particular staging and project coordination expertise — the site remained at capacity and fully operational throughout. In such an expansive facility, it was important that we collaborate closely with The Cove staff to find the most optimal use for the project budget, and ultimately to improve life quality for their clients.
We created spaces that support privacy and interaction with families and visitors. Creating ‘pause points’ along the large corridors helped to provide defined pathways, improving accessibility and wayfinding for clients, their families and staff alike.
