MercyCare Village Refurbishment – Contemporary Aged Care Design

MercyCare approached MKDC to assist in market repositioning the Village through a comprehensive aged care refurbishment. Originally built in the 1990s, the Village needed a refreshed classic contemporary design to appeal to the current and future retirement living market. Located in the Wembley Lake Monger area, the project also required an intergenerational approach. This ensures residents can welcome family, friends, and the broader community. MKDC focused on reinventing space, aesthetics, and amenities to achieve these goals.

The transformation program included apartment and villa refurbishments, as well as strategic styling campaigns. Importantly, the biggest impact was seen in the Community Centre refurbishment. Located at the heart of the Village, MKDC collaborated closely with residents and MercyCare through a co-design engagement process. As a result, the outcomes are beautiful, functional, and inclusive. Shared and lobby areas feature a contemporary classic design, blending hotel-inspired luxury with residential warmth.

MKDC enhanced the sense of arrival with façade upgrades, stylish oversized plants, and a cohesive colour palette. Inside, the upgrades included a new lobby, library, business centre, gym, activity rooms, and a revitalized courtyard. Thoughtful styling and artwork create points of interaction, encouraging social connection between residents and visitors throughout the spaces.

The refurbishment also attracted prospective residents and improved engagement. Consequently, sales and occupancy increased. By combining innovative residential design, intergenerational principles, and functional community spaces, the project ensures Mercy Village remains a central hub for activity, connection, and modern retirement living.
