Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD)

The DPIRD (Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development, Western Australia) commissioned MKDC to deliver a modern office fitout that reflects their role in agriculture, fisheries, and regional development across WA. This project demonstrates how biophilic design, colour psychology, and functional workspace planning can create a vibrant, future-proof workplace that aligns with the DPIRD brand.

The office fitout provides a variety of workspaces to support different activities. Quiet focus areas, collaborative zones, and process workspaces allow staff to choose how they work depending on the task. Additionally, a dedicated wellness space, staff hub, and training rooms enhance professional development, staff wellbeing, and engagement.

The interior palette takes inspiration from the Western Australian environment. Gold and green reference regional canola fields, while blues represent local fisheries. A feature polished plaster wall includes a dragged finish that evokes farmland furrows and waterway ripples, connecting the design to the department’s regional and agricultural focus.

Sustainable materials and finishes were carefully selected to create a calming, natural workplace while reducing environmental impact. The office fitout also supports future flexibility, enabling reconfiguration as staff numbers or operational needs change.

This DPIRD WA office fitout demonstrates MKDC’s expertise in functional, engaging, and brand-aligned workplace design. For examples of other projects in the public sector and community workplaces, explore our other projects here.

As a result, the office fitout delivers a flexible, collaborative, and visually engaging environment that promotes staff wellbeing, productivity, and operational efficiency.
